Savills was appointed to provide planning consultancy advise to RES in respect of its proposed 12 turbine wind farm in the Scottish Highlands. Highland Council refused planning permission for the proposal and Savills provided planning consultancy advice as part of the appeal.
Savills worked alongside RES and its team of advisors including landscape architects, traffic consultants, solicitors and QC to prepare the statement of appeal.
We advised on policy arguments and helped devised the strategy to address the reasons for refusal of planning permission. We worked with the client and legal team to address the council’s request for developer contributions to road improvements, which we considered to be unnecessary and unjustified.
Savills prepared the planning policy section of the written appeal statement, prepared a response to Planning Authority Response Form and helped prepare commentary on the new Highland Council Onshore Wind Supplementary Guidance.
The Scottish Government granted planning permission on appeal in April 2017 and without imposing the requirement for a financial contribution to highway improvements, requested by the council.
