Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) is an approach to development that leaves biodiversity in a measurably better state than before.
BNG is now a mandatory requirement for all but a few new developments which means developers must achieve a minimum 10% gain in biodiversity compared to the pre-development performance of the site.
BNG can be delivered on-site, off-site or through statutory credits. Off-site delivery presents an opportunity for landowners to create a quantifiable uplift in biodiversity and broker the uplift for a financial return whilst adhering to prescribed long term land management obligations.
