I began my sandwich placement year as a building surveyor working in building & project consultancy at Savills in June of this year. Since then, I have learnt a huge amount about the industry and been exposed to a variety of service lines. I have had the opportunity to work with a number of experienced chartered surveyors across the technical due diligence, design & contract administration and dilapidations teams, giving me a breadth of experience across many different property types.
By choosing to partake in the sandwich placement, I have been able to put my academic learning at university into practice, putting everything into context and developing my understanding. I am confident that I will return to university for my final year with a greater depth of knowledge and technical ability. Savills also organise workshops and various events to support sandwich placement students in working towards the APC, which was a priority for me in doing the placement year. This is a definite advantage over other companies as Savills give a huge amount of support and opportunities for relevant experience.
Although, it hasn’t all just been about work! As part of the placement, I have made a lot of friends within my division as well as with other placement students / graduates. There are plenty of opportunities to socialise with colleagues and clients, weather it is an informal drink after work or a team away day activity, I have found Savills a very sociable place to work.
