Case Study

Church Commissioners for England

Estate Management

Savills has managed the northern portion of the Church Commissioners’ rural portfolio since 1847, providing day-to-day property management services and helping the Commissioners to implement their rural portfolio strategy.

Our principal team comprises Andrew Harle, Patrick Moseley, Stuart Jeffries and Iain Nott who oversee the service delivery on the client’s rural, strategic land, minerals and bishoprics portfolios respectively, with support from teams located around the UK, including Carlisle, York, Lichfield, Peterborough, Chelmsford and London.

Throughout the relationship, our property management experts maintain daily contact with the client’s in-house rural and strategic land teams, assisting in the high-level monitoring of the implementation of portfolio strategies and constructing reports to give effective oversight and assurance to the charity’s trustees.

As a significant investor in property the quality and reputation of our advisers is important to us and we are pleased to share our experience of this firm with other investors and organisations. In short, we consider Savills to be best in class and would recommend their rural and strategic land and minerals teams.

J. Weir, Head of Real Estate, Church Commissioners for England

The Commissioners are, as a part of the Church of England, concerned to protect their reputation, particularly as, for many of their farmer tenants, their rural managing agents are the face of the Church, and Savills makes sure to act with integrity at every stage. As the Church Commissioners is a registered charity with clear fiduciary duties to beneficiaries, we take the time to understand and comply with all regulations.

On the rare occasion that any issues have arisen regarding their instructions, we acted quickly and effectively to ensure that matters were addressed and resolved.

Our instruction is re-tendered from time to time, in accordance with best practice, and on each occasion we successfully retained the business, demonstrating professional expertise and value for money throughout the course of the instructions.

Notwithstanding our relationship that spans across the centuries, Savills continues to manage the client’s properties with a clear eye on the future.
