A day in the life of...a development consultancy graduate

PERSONAL PROFILE

Name: Charlie Alcroft

Department & office: Development Consultancy, Manchester

University & course: University of Reading, MSc Real Estate

APC pathway: commercial

Why did you choose the savills graduate programme?

I chose the graduate scheme due to the focus Savills places on graduates, the graduate scheme has been voted by the Times as the best in Property year after year and there is a clear pathway to the top with 40% of the board having joined as graduates. Another major factor was the four six-month rotations that have provided me with a broad range of experiences in different sectors and ensures that I have adequate experience to pass the APC. I was also attracted by the global rotations available with opportunities to work in Europe, Asia and Australia.

What does a typical day look like?

During the graduate programme I have worked in a variety of different departments and have now moved into Development Consultancy for my final rotation. Depending on the department, I could be undertaking a viewing of a hotel, assessing the viability of a development site, assisting with a ‘Red Book’ valuation or drafting marketing particulars for the letting of an industrial warehouse. As such, there is no typical day on the graduate programme.
