Savills planning experts acted for the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) and Team Stadium, led by Sir Robert McAlpine, coordinating the planning process for the London 2012 Olympic Stadium. Working on the project since 2007, we led the negotiations with the key organisations including the ODA Decision Team, CABE, Transport for London and the Mayor of London.
The Stadium presented a challenge that has never been undertaken in previous Olympic Stadia – design an 80,000 seat stadium that can later transform to a 25,000 seat stadium. This required an innovative approach to the Town Planning Strategy undertaken over the course of the project.
We were subsequently appointed by the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) to lead the transformation of the Olympic Stadium to accommodate the Rugby World Cup 2015 and then further changes to accommodate West Ham United in a 60,000 capacity stadium.
Savills Planning also advised the London Organising Games (LOGOC) on all competition venues and training bases including Beach Volleyball at Horseguards Parade, the Equestrian events at Greenwich Park and Archery at Lord’s.
