There are a number of different tools and products that could make your landscaping project run incredibly well, with the likes of Builder’s merchants Denbigh among others who supply products and services fit for all types of homes.

Landscape tips and ideas

1. Create a list of your requirements. For example, are you going to require play space for children? Maybe you want to grow fruit and vegetables? Or maybe you are after a large patio space for your family to gather on during those nice days? Note your requirements and begin working out what how you can achieve each objective, you should create a few rough sketches of the gardens with ideas where you would like to place things. This is a great organizing tool for beginners to help develop ideas and is not considered the master plans, so don’t worry if they’re not perfect. You can easily alter your ideas with rough sketching and are able to get input from friends and family.

2. Study the sun and wind patterns as every garden will have favorable and unfavorable times of the day in these respects. You may are able to plan your most suitable use in accordance to the weather conditions at certain times of the day, for example, a patio on the west side of the house will get lots of afternoon sun. Wind streams across certain parts of the garden may be unwelcome when trying to have an evening fire in the garden, thus it is worth considering your preferences. By doing this you are able to plan solutions to counteract potential arising problems with clever landscaping.

3. Don’t rush into decisions – coming to quick conclusions can lead to making decisions that do not work in the long term, so get a real idea of what you want by living with current layouts until you get a real idea about what you want long term.

4. Start small and allow yourself room to improve and discover exactly what you’re after. You may see on television, phenomenal outdoor makeovers that take place in just hours or days. You should remember that these are undertaken by huge crews – of which you probably don’t have access to. A part of creating your own landscape is doing this slowly and enjoying the entire process, from generating ideas, sketching and undertaking manual labor. Go out and work on the garden when you have a few hours, don’t pressure yourself into completing it all in super quick times. Remember that plants grow and things fill in, so give things time to take shape and remember to never take shortcuts as your end result will suffer.

5. Choose a focal point and work around it, as any good garden has a single or series of focal points that have been fantastically complemented through such things as trees, plants, sculptures, shrubs etc.  The idea is to draw your eye and move it through the landscape.

6. Focus on scales and pacing as these are the most difficult principles for beginners. There will be a variation in size, shape and color, with tall plants against a building or in the back of a flowerbed. There will be a number of these different elements you will have to consider, which will extend to extreme details such as colors, shapes and fitting.

7. Stay open to change unless you are very strongly devoted to something. If you find your taste in your landscape design has changed over time, don’t be afraid to remove it and replace things according to your preferences. Always remember that patience is key and you should always have one eye on what you may want in the future.
