As of September 2020, non-cognate students who join our graduate programme will be able to undertake an RICS accredited masters course through a fully funded apprenticeship.

If you have completed a non RICS accredited degree and are looking to join the graduate scheme, you will now be able to study whilst on the graduate scheme through one of these distance learning or day release apprenticeship masters programmes. This will be fully funded and therefore the student will incur no cost. Enrolment for these programmes will occur after you have recieved an offer for a role on the graduate scheme.

The senior professional assessment involves five stages:

1. Eligibility: you must meet the qualification and experience requirements
2. Vetting: your application will be reviewed to confirm your profile is eligible for the assessment
3. Ethics: completion of the RICS professionalism module
4. Submission: your submission provides evidence of your experience for assessors to prepare for your final assessment interview
5. Final assessment interview: you will be assessed by a panel to determine if you are competent to practise as an RICS chartered professional

Springboard

• 2-hour in-person APC Overview workshop to be delivered at Springboard.

12 Months to Go

• Full day in person.
• Review the RICS APC requirements / objectives / publications / materials.
• Establish objectives and find out what work candidates have done so far and suggest a timeline for success.
• Consider the assessor’s perspective and the Assessment Platform.
• Review the number of days candidates have logged and CPD achieved to date and their competency selections.
• How to get the most out of the Summary of Experience (ideas for the selection of a topic for their Case Study).
• The relevance of topical issues and how to keep up to date.

6 Months to Go

Half day in person:

• Run through preparation booklet with additional attention to issues that might otherwise trip the candidate (e.g. intent to submit form, professional ethics module, submission dates/approbations etc.).
• Additional deep dive into logbook, diary review, CPD and Summary of Experience (drafting style, content etc.).
• The second half of this session will go into detail on the requirements of the Case Study and systematically work through all component parts and appendices.

15-minute virtual 1:1: 

• Run through candidate’s Case Study Prep Sheet and opportunity to ask any questions.

Revision

Full day online (x2):
Session 1:

• Establishing your objectives and finding out what work you have done so far (please prepare for this as above).
• Ensuring you are ready to submit and avoiding potential pitfalls.
• Suggested answer technique to assessors’ questions.
• Mandatory competencies including Conduct Rules, Ethics & Professional Practice.

Session 2: 

• What to expect in lead-up to assessment day itself.
• Detailed question answering styles.
• Revision planner time assessments.
• Some core optional competencies.
• Case Study presentations – Question & Answer session.
• How to prepare for final assessment interview.

Chris Pike (BPC)

After gaining hands-on experience with a local general building company and completing a Building Surveying degree, I joined Savills in autumn 2018 as a Graduate Building Surveyor within the Building and Project Consultancy division. I was focused on progressing towards chartership, rotating through the professional building consultancy teams to gain the required experience and support. I am proud to have achieved MRICS status just two years later, in autumn 2020. I now sit as an Associate within the Technical Due Diligence team. 

From graduate to fee earner, I have been entrusted with responsibility across a broad range of instructions and sectors. This exposure not only kept the work varied and engaging but also accelerated my development technically, commercially, and personally. I’ve also had the opportunity to work on a number of high-profile assets, which has provided invaluable insight into the complexities and standards expected at the top end of the market. Regular involvement in real-world challenges and contributing to client-focused solutions from the start helped build my confidence and shape my professional judgment.

Taking ownership of projects and client relationships has been incredibly rewarding. Seeing the direct impact of my work through client feedback and successful outcomes has reinforced my passion for the role. Beyond fee-earning work, I’ve also been able to co-lead the recruitment and APC training of new graduates. This has allowed me to give back and help others progress along the same path, and grow my network across the business. 

The trust placed in me, the diverse project experience, and the opportunities to grow have all been key to my journey so far at Savills. I’m excited for what lies ahead and look forward to continuing to develop, contribute, and make a lasting impact within the profession.

Kirsty Turner (Planning)

I joined one of the London Planning team’s at Savills on the graduate scheme in September 2021, after the first Covid-19 lockdown. My team were extremely welcoming from day one and I was placed on, and given key responsibilities on a number of projects for a mix of public and private sector clients delivering big residential masterplans and commercial buildings in central London. 

I was also given a mentor who supported me through the APC process and I was very pleased to become a chartered town planner after two years on the graduate scheme at the end of 2023. Savills have been very supportive of my progression and I am pleased to now be coming into my 5th year in the business.

Sandra Nwachukwu (Industrial Investment)

I joined Savills’ graduate scheme in 2014, following an international internship with the company in 2013 across our Japan and London offices. From day one, I was supported by an excellent network that helped me progress towards becoming a Chartered Surveyor. During my rotations, I was given hands-on experience and meaningful responsibilities that enabled me to develop both technically and professionally.

What I valued most was the opportunity to work with a wide range of teams and build lasting relationships with both colleagues and clients. They say time flies when you’re having fun, and it’s true. Eleven years on, I’m now a Director in our Industrial Investment team, and it hardly feels like any time has passed at all!
