Why Northwood offers so much more than a speedy commute to the capital

Served by no fewer than three underground stations on the Metropolitan tube line, Northwood has long been a popular choice for buyers seeking a fast and reliable commute to London.

Yet, this leafy suburb offers far more than a swift journey in and out of the capital.

Wide, tree-lined streets give the area a distinctly green character, while its reputation for excellent schools, sporting facilities and quality housing continues to draw families and professionals alike.

The private Moor Park estate and Copsewood are consistently the most sought-after addresses – known for their generous plot sizes and diversity of property, from mid-size detached period homes through to substantial modern mansions.

Northwood also benefits from the presence of major employers, including the UK’s military headquarters, NATO Command and the specialist Mount Vernon Hospital.

Education

Independent schools such as Merchant Taylors’ School, St Helen’s School and Northwood College for Girls are consistently popular and a major draw for families moving to the area. Northwood School provides a strong state-funded secondary option, while primaries, including Pinner Wood School, St Joseph Catholic Primary School and Cannon Lane Primary School, cement Northwood’s appeal for those with younger children.

Culture, leisure and the great outdoors

Culture is close at hand. The Compass Theatre in nearby Ickenham hosts a variety of plays, musicals and comedy shows, while the area’s proximity to London puts world-class attractions like the Warner Bros. Studio Tour and Wembley Arena within easy reach.

For outdoor pursuits, residents are spoilt for choice. Ruislip Woods, Batchworth Heath and Oxhey Woods Nature Reserve all provide peaceful weekend walking routes. Sports clubs for cricket, tennis, riding and football are well established, while multiple golf courses, including the renowned Moor Park Golf Club, reinforce Northwood’s recreational offering.

Food and drink

Northwood’s bustling high street combines everyday convenience with a cosmopolitan mix of cafés, gastropubs and restaurants. Dining options include Italian, Turkish and Indian cuisines, alongside an increasing number of modern eateries. A particular highlight is Wyld Thyme Eatery, founded by Michelin-star trained chef Kate Malcolm and known for its high-quality pastries, desserts and brunch dishes.
