Sandwich Placement

William Radbourne - Rural Professional

Everyone I have met internally within Savills have been incredibly welcoming and supportive, always offering help should I need it. I really do believe this placement year has set me up perfectly for my final year of university and my future career.

William Radbourne

I was born and raised on an arable farm in Essex and studied at Bishop’s Stortford College for 11 years, before deciding to further my studies with a degree in Rural Enterprise and Land Management at Harper Adams University. As part of my degree I chose to undertake a year long placement with Savills because I firmly believe learning on the job is essential to development in terms of education and graduate career prospects. In terms of applying for jobs, Savills was top of the list from the start having done two weeks work experience when I was younger and of course the great reputation.

One of the many benefits of being a placement student is that you have the opportunity to get involved with all aspects of the business and to explore further the topics you are most interested. Being part of all departmental and business development meetings made me feel very welcome and valued as well as learning how a large firm works.

I am working in the rural department so have been lucky enough to be given plenty of experience in both the professional and estate management service lines which all count towards my APC. I have been able to work on some unique valuations, one of which included a glamping site, and helping in submitting claims for a large number of part 1 compulsory purchase and compensation claims. I also helped updating EPC reports in residential properties on a rural estate to comply with the new regulations.

On top of the diverse work load the training that is offered is second to none. The graduate training program that Savills offer gives lots of opportunities to develop our understanding through lunch and learns, webinars and training days.

Everyone I have met internally within Savills have been incredibly welcoming and supportive, always offering help should I need it. I really do believe this placement year has set me up perfectly for my final year of university and my future career. I would completely recommend it to anyone who is considering it, and while I will be sad to leave Savills in August, I will be applying for a graduate job come September.
